Workforce challenges in the construction industry

Queensland’s population is one of the fastest growing in Australia. This is increasing demand for construction of social and economic infrastructure. The greater regional spread and diversity of upcoming projects add to workforce challenges. Skilled workers are also vital to deliver the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The construction industry needs more workers:

  • with more diverse skills
  • for longer
  • at the same time across different sectors and places in Queensland.

This will lead to different parts of the industry competing for workers from the same limited pool. That is while also competing for labour from other industries facing similar challenges.

Innovative solutions are needed to attract, develop and retain a skilled construction workforce.
