The Gateway to Industry School program (GISP) for power and energy is delivered by the Queensland Resources Council. It focuses on increasing student awareness of career opportunities across the full energy system. This includes energy generation, transmission, storage, and distribution.
Why power and energy matters
Queensland’s power and energy sector is experiencing significant growth, creating a demand for a skilled workforce. The Power and Energy GISP aims to:
- introduce students to diverse career opportunities in energy
- provide industry-focused career advice, guidance, and hands-on learning experiences
- support students in making informed subject and career pathway choices
- strengthen collaboration between schools, industry, and training providers to ensure students are workforce ready.
How the project works
The Power and Energy GISP is delivered by a dedicated project officer in partnership with:
- power and energy industry representatives
- secondary schools
- education and training providers
- government.
An Industry Reference Group ensures the program remains relevant and aligned with industry needs.
Opportunities to get involved
There are many ways schools, industry, and training providers can participate:
- Industry can share career insights, support resource development, and engage in school activities.
- Schools and educators can participate in structured interactions to help students explore real-world energy careers.
- Training providers can partner with the project to strengthen pathways and transitions into energy careers.
The Power and Energy project aligns with the Queensland Energy Roadmap 2025 and has a broader focus, covering other energy and resource sectors while also retaining elements from the now completed Renewable energy and hydrogen GISP projects.
