The School to Work Transitions (S2WT) program supports school students who may face challenges transitioning successfully from school to further education, training or employment. This program is a once-off supplement to the established Gateway to Industry Schools program intended to guide future program offerings through the Department of Trade, Employment and Training.
The S2WT program partners with funded organisations to support students by:
- building strong and effective partnerships between schools and industries across Queensland
- connecting schools, students and employers to maximise local employment opportunities and create youth-friendly workplaces
- providing tailored assistance and support to under-represented student groups.
The program focuses on supporting the following priority school student groups:
- school-based apprentices and trainees
- First Nations students
- students from schools with an Index of Community Socio-educational Advantage (ICSEA) below 900
- students in rural and remote areas
- under-represented groups in the workforce
- place-based strategies in areas with high youth unemployment and/or significant workforce strategies that could be filled by school leavers.
