Ceremonial honours are a proud Queensland Training Awards tradition, recognising individuals whose leadership and service have left a lasting impact on the state’s training system.

Currently, two awards are presented in honour of Queensland training champions.

Harry Hauenschild AO

After passing public service examinations in 1949, Harry began a boiler making apprenticeship at just 17 – the start of a lifelong association with Queensland’s apprenticeship system.

His belief in the value of apprenticeships inspired a lifetime of advocacy and mentoring. A passionate champion for workers’ rights, apprenticeship training and his state, Harry became an icon of trade training in Queensland.

Across his distinguished career – including roles as Commissioner for Training, Chair of the State Training Council and Training Ombudsman – Harry provided unwavering support for vocational education and training in Queensland and nationally.

Bob Marshman AM

During the 1980s, Bob played a pivotal role at the Commonwealth level in transforming the apprenticeship and traineeship system. In 1992, he became Director-General of the Department of Employment, Vocational Training and Industrial Relations, where he led reforms in tertiary and further education (TAFE), industrial relations, workplace health and safety, and workers’ compensation.

Bob’s 38-year public service career was defined by dedication, integrity and a deep commitment to equitable access to education and training for all. Recognised as one of Australia’s foremost authorities on vocational education and training, he left a legacy that continues to influence the sector today.
