Empowering the resources workforce
A new Queensland Resources Workforce Plan will build a resources workforce ready to meet growing demand and new opportunities.
It aims to deliver a skilled, adaptable and resilient resources workforce for Queensland. The plan builds on over $159 million of investment in skills for the resources sector in 2025-26.
The workforce plan will deliver 29 practical training and workforce solutions. Actions already underway include:
- $500,000 for Queensland Resources Council to deliver Women in Resources Empowering Development (WIRED) to support women into technical and operational roles
- $2 million to expand the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) to 50 more schools.

The QMEA expansion is an election commitment of the Queensland Government. It forms part of Improved Completions, a joint initiative between the Australian Government and Queensland Government.
