Jobs Queensland is an independent statutory entity that provides expert, evidence-based, industry-led advice to the Queensland Government to support the strengthening of Queensland’s current and future workforce.
The Jobs Queensland Act 2015 outlines the functions of Jobs Queensland and membership requirements. Jobs Queensland’s functions include providing advice to the Minister for Trade, Employment and Training on:
- the skills it anticipates will be needed for particular industries and regional areas
- future workforce development and planning
- the apprenticeship and traineeship system in Queensland.

Michael Drew - Chairperson
Professor Michael E. Drew
Michael E. Drew, Ph.D. is a trusted advisor to family offices, foundations, and fiduciary investors. A financial economist by training, Michael is co-founder of Drew, Walk & Co. and Professor Emeritus of Finance at Griffith University.
Michael serves as Deputy Chair of CareSuper, a member of the Investment Advisory Board of the Petroleum Fund of Timor-Leste, and a Trustee of Mary Aikenhead Ministries. Michael serves as an investment committee member of Aboriginal Hostels Limited, the Governance Institute of Australia (Chair), and the Public Trustee of Queensland.
Michael volunteers his time as Chair of both St Vincent’s Foundation Queensland and Volunteering Australia. Professor Drew received his PhD in the field of economics from the University of Queensland, is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst™, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and Life Member of FINSIA. He is currently a part-time doctoral candidate at St Peter’s College, University of Oxford in the field of financial geography.
Danielle Carey
Managing Consultant, Danielle Carey Consulting
Danielle is an independent consultant with expertise in governance, workforce development, economic growth, and stakeholder engagement. She currently supports the Cairns Employment Region through the Federal Government’s Workforce Australia Local Jobs Program - facilitating, advising, advocating, and
developing programs to address regional workforce challenges.
Previously she was CEO of Regional Development Australia Tropical North and the business and industry liaison for the Department of Education and Training where she addressed skills gaps and workforce issues impacting the commercial and economic growth of Far North Qld. Danielle also served as Vice
President on the Study Cairns Executive Committee. She is based in Cairns and is a member of the AICD.
Heidi Cooper
CEO, Business Chamber Queensland
Heidi Cooper is the CEO of Business Chamber Queensland and has dedicated her career to the advancement business. She is a passionate advocate for the strategic growth of Queensland.
Heidi is a member of the Queensland Leaders’ Forum, Q2032 Industry Advisory Group, Brisbane Festival Committee, St Margaret’s Foundation Board and the St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace School Advisory Council. Heidi holds several tertiary qualifications including a Master of Laws and she is currently completing a PhD at UQ Business School.
Bernie Hogan
Chief Executive, Queensland Hotels Association
Bernie is currently the Chief Executive of the Queensland Hotels Association (QHA), the peak industry body representing the hotels, hospitality, and tourism accommodation sector in Queensland. He joined QHA in 2016 and is passionate about defending the industry and the people within it.
He holds a Bachelor of International Business (Hons) as well as post-graduate qualifications in executive leadership and sports coaching and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Kate Venables
General Manager South West Region, TAFE Queensland
Kate is General Manager South West Region, TAFE Queensland, the state’s largest training provider with practical, industry-relevant training from certificates to bachelor degrees. Kate is a director for Vanguard Laundry; member of the Duchesne Residential College within the University of Queensland; St Bart’s Parish Council and Senior Leadership Team and more recently has stepped down from the role of President of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce.
Kate has a Master of Education and several post-graduate qualifications in leadership, Catholic Culture and Theology.
Deirdre von Guilleaume

Deirdre von Guilleaume is a former school principal with approximately 15 years’ experience at various Queensland schools, and a teaching career spanning more than 20 years. Her career and experience include leadership, mentoring, coordination and governance.
Deirdre holds a Higher Diploma in Education (4 year).
Trent Young
CEO and co-owner, Young Guns Container Crew Pty Ltd.
Trent Young is one of the founding brothers of Young Guns Container Crews Pty Ltd. Since 2004, Trent has applied his business knowledge, to several organisations at board and director levels as well as spending time as a professional rugby league player with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) and an Executive MBA from the University of Melbourne.
