Training for the country proves an award-winning formula
Orbus3 has been crowned the Small Training Provider of the Year at the 2026 Queensland Training Awards thanks to its focus on bringing civil construction training to regional and remote areas of the state.
Orbus3 is a specialist civil construction training provider delivering practical, industry-led training across Queensland, with a particular focus on regional and remote communities.
Established in 2013, the registered training organisation currently supports more than 450 enrolled students across a range of civil construction pathways, from entry-level training through to higher-level qualifications and workforce development.
Its defining approach is simple: take training to where the work happens.
Trainers travel across Queensland to deliver face-to-face, worksite-based training in locations including Cape York, Thursday Island, Roma, Winton and Thargomindah, reducing travel barriers for learners and disruption for employers.
Orbus3 won the Queensland Training Award thanks to its proven ability to deliver accessible, high-quality training without compromising industry relevance or integrity and its commitment to servicing all parts of Queensland.
It combines workplace delivery with flexible online learning, tailored learner support and assessment designed around real projects and equipment. Strong employer engagement and continuous improvement underpin impressive outcomes in completions and customer satisfaction.
Orbus3 Chief Executive Officer Dean Gurney said the organisation’s win showed the value in designing training for the industries that need it.
“We’ve always believed civil construction training should happen as close as possible to the work itself,” Mr Gurney said
Taking training to regional and remote communities means learners can build skills in real environments, employers can keep their people on the job, and the training remains practical and relevant to what industry actually needs.
“Our trainers travel thousands of kilometres each year to take training to where the work happens, with a footprint stretching from Cairns and Cape York through regional and Central Queensland to remote communities such as Thargomindah.
“Face-to-face, worksite-based delivery reduces travel barriers for learners and disruption for employers, while allowing training and assessment to take place in real working environments.
“That focus on access has been part of Orbus from the beginning. In 2013, we adopted online learning with offline capability to help overcome distance and connectivity barriers for regional and remote learners. It was designed to complement, rather than replace, workplace training.
“Our model is built around listening to industry and designing training that works in the real world. That means being flexible enough to meet operational needs while never compromising the quality or integrity of training and assessment.
“This award 100 per cent belongs to our team — our trainers are out there working directly with learners and employers across Queensland, while our support team does brilliant work behind the scenes to keep everything moving. They are the reason we can do what we do, and I’m incredibly proud of them.”
Orbus3 will now go on to contest their award on the national stage at the Australian Training Awards to be held in Sydney on 20 November 2026.
